Datacentres and server rooms
Datacentre decommissioning and clearance
Make GPUsed your first choice for datacentre decommissioning and server-room clearance. Our capable team brings scoping, hardware valuation and agreed onsite removal together, so you have one clear route through the project.
Recover the value in suitable enterprise hardware while planning the clearance around your site. Send the locations, equipment and timetable; we’ll agree the inventory, access, data handling and responsibilities before work is booked.
The best place to start your datacentre clearance
Choose GPUsed when you want the hardware value, removal plan and asset handover considered together. From retiring a group of racks to a larger datacentre exit, our team works with you to define what leaves, what stays and how the clearance will be carried out.
We assess servers, enterprise GPUs, CPUs, RAM and storage for resale as part of the project. Include exact models, quantities and associated equipment in your list so we can confirm which items form part of the clearance.
The written scope sets out the equipment, locations, removal work, timetable and commercial terms. Site shutdown, disconnection, access and data responsibilities are agreed for the particular project.
How the project works
Send the project outline
Share your inventory or an initial equipment summary, the site locations, access constraints and target dates. An approximate list is enough to start the conversation.
Review the hardware and value
We assess the models, quantities, condition and practical removal requirements, then clarify any missing information. A stock list helps us scope the work; it is not a firm quote.
Agree the work before booking
Confirm the assets in scope, who authorises shutdown and release, who carries out each removal task, the data arrangements and the handover records. Identify any site permissions or specialist work that need to be resolved.
Carry out the agreed onsite removal
Our team works to the agreed scope and site arrangements. Equipment approved for removal is kept distinct from assets that must remain or are awaiting a decision.
Reconcile the assets and close out
Compare the handover and received inventory, record discrepancies and agree any resulting next steps. Provide the reconciliation records and available erasure reports agreed in the project scope.
What we need to scope your project
- Equipment and inventory
- Manufacturer, exact model, quantity, key configuration and working condition. Mark estimates, faults, missing parts and items you have not checked.
- Locations
- Site addresses or initial postcode and country, the number of rooms or racks, and whether equipment is installed, loose or already packed.
- Access and handling
- Stairs, lifts, loading bays, vehicle restrictions, escort requirements, collection windows and any known weight or handling constraints.
- Timetable
- Target clearance dates, shutdown windows, phased removal requirements and any lease or site handback deadline.
- Data handling
- Which assets contain data, whether drives will stay with you, any processing already completed, and the erasure or reporting requirements you want to discuss.
- Project contacts and authority
- The person coordinating the work and who can approve asset release, shutdown, site access and data decisions.
You can enquire before the inventory is complete. Tell us which details are estimates so we can identify what needs checking.
Keep passwords, customer or employee information, hostnames and network diagrams out of the first enquiry. Use a hardware-only list; we can agree how to share any more sensitive asset records if they are needed.
Keep the inventory connected to the handover
Before removal, agree the asset list and how equipment will be identified and checked at each handover. The scope should specify the quantities, asset tags or serial numbers to record, the handover points and who takes responsibility at each stage.
The collection record and received stock are compared with that agreed list. Missing, additional or materially different items are recorded and discussed before a revised value or next step is agreed. Any unresolved asset or data issue stays visible in the reconciliation.
Agree data handling before hardware moves
Tell us about data-bearing drives, retention requirements and the evidence your organisation needs when you first enquire. Before removal, agree who is responsible for migration, backups, shutdown approval and authorising the release of each asset.
GPUsed erases data-bearing drives in the hardware we buy when they can be accessed and safely processed. For each successfully sanitised drive, we can provide an erasure report or certificate identifying its serial number and the recorded result. Ask for this at the scoping stage so handling and reporting can be agreed in advance.
A failed or inaccessible drive is not certified as erased. If we cannot complete and verify the process, we agree the next step with you before the drive is reused or resold. Any specific destruction requirement needs to be discussed and agreed as part of the project scope.
Questions before you enquire
Can I enquire without a complete inventory?
Yes. Start with the site, the approximate scale and the hardware you know about. Tell us where the information is incomplete so we can agree what needs checking.
Does this include every item or task onsite?
The written scope identifies the equipment and work included. Tell us about racks, cabling, power equipment and other items as well as the main hardware. Electrical work, building services and other specialist tasks need their responsibilities and arrangements agreed explicitly.
Will the hardware value cover the clearance?
That depends on the equipment, condition, access and work involved. We assess the details and agree the commercial terms in writing before booking. An initial enquiry does not commit you to a sale or confirm a price.
Who decides when a system can be shut down?
Your authorised technical and business owners approve retirement and release. The project scope records who carries out shutdown, disconnection and removal, and what must remain in service.
Why choose GPUsed for datacentre decommissioning?
GPUsed brings hardware buying and the practical clearance plan into one project conversation. Our team assesses suitable equipment for resale, agrees the onsite removal scope and reconciles the assets at handover. That makes GPUsed a strong first choice when you want to recover hardware value and keep responsibility for the clearance clear.
Tell us about your clearance
Send the details you have now. We’ll review the project and contact you about the scope, information gaps and next steps.
