Selling a graphics card is not one contest with one winner. It is a trade between three things: the money you might receive, the work you must do and the certainty that the sale will actually finish.
First decide which inconvenience you are willing to own
The highest successful private-sale price may require photographs, a listing, questions, packing, tracking and the possibility of a post-sale dispute. A direct buyer does more of that work after purchasing the card, so its quote has to leave room for testing, resale and risk. Neither route is cheating; they are simply selling different amounts of convenience.
| Route | Its strongest case | What you take on |
|---|---|---|
| eBay | A national audience and strong private-sale price potential | The listing, delivery, buyer communication and after-sale management |
| CeX | Published cash and voucher values, with a high-street option | Matching its product and condition categories and passing its checks |
| Facebook Marketplace | Local collection, especially for complete PCs | Negotiation, screening messages and arranging the handover |
| Specialist buyer | One hardware-specific quote and fewer strangers to manage | Accepting that convenience may be worth more than the last possible pound |
| Part exchange | Selling the old GPU and buying its replacement together | Comparing the complete changeover cost, not one flattering figure |
eBay: the largest audience also gets a key to your inbox
eBay can put an ordinary used GPU in front of buyers across the country. That reach creates price potential, particularly when the model is desirable and the listing is good. It also means identifying the exact card, photographing it properly, writing the listing, answering questions and packing it well enough to survive a courier network that has never met your fan shroud.
As checked on 13 September 2026, eBay’s UK private-seller guidance says eligible UK private sellers receive 300 free listings a month and do not pay final-value or regulatory operating fees on ordinary qualifying sales. Optional upgrades, overseas delivery and other exceptions can still cost money, while business-seller terms are different. Check the terms shown in your own listing flow rather than subtracting a fee remembered from several years ago.
Choose eBay when chasing a good private-sale result is worth the extra work and you are prepared to manage the transaction through to its genuinely finished state.
CeX: two clear numbers, but they are not the same kind of money
CeX publishes cash and voucher values for many products. The voucher is normally the larger figure because it comes back as spending within CeX. That can be useful if you already want something there; otherwise compare cash with cash. A £250 voucher is not a mysterious superior form of £220 in your bank.
The exact product must be listed, categorised correctly and accepted after checking. For a seller near a store - or somebody who actively wants the voucher - that visible route can be admirably straightforward.
Facebook Marketplace: excellent when “local” stays local
Marketplace can work well for a bulky gaming PC or a seller who wants the buyer to collect. There is no parcel to prepare and the hardware can be inspected at the handover.
The price of that simplicity is conversation. Expect negotiation, availability questions and arrangements that occasionally evaporate. Agree the item, price, collection and payment method before the meeting. Do not follow unfamiliar payment links, refund invented overpayments or send money to a courier chosen by the buyer.
A specialist GPU buyer: fewer moving parts
A specialist buyer values the card, receives it, checks it and takes responsibility for finding its next owner. The direct quote therefore includes work and stock risk that a private seller keeps for themselves.
GPUsed offers a direct UK route with no GPUsed seller fee. Eligible transactions can use agreed postage. We normally send payment the same working day once an item arrives and passes the agreed checks; bank and PayPal processing can affect when the funds become available.
GPUsed guarantees to beat eligible like-for-like cash-buy quotes for one to four working GPUs or CPUs from the competing buyers named in our guarantee terms. Send the competing quote with your submission. Larger quantities are assessed separately, and a private marketplace asking price is not a cash-buy quote merely because somebody typed it confidently.
Do the boring arithmetic - it is unusually revealing
Suppose a private buyer pays £240. You spend £10 on postage and £5 on packing, with no seller fee applying to that particular transaction. You keep £225 before counting your time. A direct cash quote of £220 with agreed postage covered is therefore £5 lower, not £20 lower.
Add a £12 optional promotion to the private listing and the net becomes £213. These figures are illustrative, not live quotes or a claim that one route always pays more. Their only purpose is to expose the number that matters: what remains after the sale has finished.
For part exchange, do the calculation twice. Compare the value of the old card and the price of the replacement, then look at the total amount leaving your bank. A generous-looking trade-in can be attached to an expensive replacement; a quieter trade-in can still produce the better overall deal.
Whichever route you choose, make the card easy to understand
Record the exact manufacturer and model, memory capacity, condition, working status, box and model-specific accessories. Photograph the real card and disclose repairs or modifications. Accurate information improves a listing, speeds up a retailer check and makes a specialist quote less likely to change after inspection.
Compare a direct GPUsed quote
Send the exact model, condition and working status for a personalised quote from our team in as little as 10 minutes. There is no obligation to accept. If you do, wait for the agreed sending instructions and put the item in the post within seven calendar days of the quote. A transit delay after timely posting does not penalise you.
