Generation, model and suffix belong together. A Core i5 label without its remaining numbers cannot produce a reliable quote.

Intel explains that K identifies an unlocked part and F indicates a processor that requires discrete graphics. Its official processor naming guide is a useful cross-check. For valuation, the complete physical label still matters most.
Check the flat contact side without touching it
Desktop Intel processors use contact pads on the CPU while the delicate socket pins are on the motherboard. Photograph the full underside in even light. Mention discolouration, contamination, substrate damage, deep marks, burns or a previous delid. Hold the CPU by the edges and do not put tape, foam or adhesive against the pads.
If it came from a working computer, say when it was removed and whether it has been tested since. “Working when removed in August” and “currently tested working” are different statements; both can be useful when they are accurate.
Loose, tray and retail-boxed processors
Tell us how the processor is presented and what will actually be included. A genuine retail box can be useful, but the box does not prove that the CPU inside is the original one. Intel distinguishes individually packaged boxed processors from tray processors supplied for system integration; neither description changes the need to identify the actual chip.
- Photograph the heat spreader and the contact side.
- List the original clamshell, box or cooler only if it is present.
- Give separate counts for different models, suffixes and conditions.
- Use the enterprise route for Xeon stock or a commercial processor inventory.

Can a faulty Intel processor still be quoted?
Sometimes, but faulty processors are normally worth only around 10–15% of the working quote. Describe the symptom and any physical damage; never repeatedly power a suspect part to force a test.

Only if you want it valued too. List it separately through the motherboard guide, including the exact model and socket condition.
